Last day :-(

Nov 24th, 2010

We woke up early, around 7.30am, ready for a new day. We had for breakfast an excellent coffee with a spectacular dish of pancakes with honey.

About 8.00am started the route towards Mu, passing by Khay and Mon (where we would eat). The way was easy, following the track while enjoying the different landscapes we were finding. We saw more houses and families along the way.

Many times people was surprised when we appeared, I guess that for them we would look like sci-fi. Around the school, the children who passed us by bike were very serious but when they advanced a few meters started to laugh out loudly (I can imagine them telling their friends how they had found some foreigners in the middle of the village).
As I mentioned before, occasionally one of these people gave us back a smile, what offset any feeling of distress we could felt for being in the spotlight.
At 11.00am we arrived at Mon. As it was a bit early for having the meal, we went alone on a promenade around the village, about half an hour. After that, we went back to the house and started to eat. Another time the food was delicious. With no doubt, the rolls were the best for me. There was also tofu in the menu and, although I did not taste it because I don’t like it very much, María told me that was really good.

Once in Chien we said goodbye to Him with a bit of pain because even though she hardly spoke English and it was difficult to communicate with her, the mixture she had of shyness and excitement had conquered us.

After our kings´ meal, we still had the last adventure of the trip before returning to Hanoi: a motorcycle trip from Mon to Chien, where we would pick up our car again. After a quick phone call (note for controlled adventurers like me: in any moment you have mobile coverage) in a few minutes we had four local men in the front door of the place where we had eaten ready to take us with their motorbikes. So, we put on the helmet and got on those little motorbikes towards Chien. You will enjoy the journey a lot; it takes just twenty minutes and is quite an experience. The only person who probably did not have a good time was my poor driver, because when we were going uphill it was impossible for the bike to handle my weight and we had to walk a few times :-).

They gave us some sweet potatoes freshly cooked and we had to get into the car back to Hanoi. At about 17.30pm we were back at Handspan office, after living a unique and probably an unrepeatable self-experience. A self-experience that I am sure we will continue enjoying a long time because I do not think that at this point we had been able to assimilate so many things.
