Living with the Muong ethnic minority

This blog was created with the idea of recording the wonderful experience we had visiting the Muong ethnic group in the Nature Reserve Ngoc Son- Ngo Luong, province of Hoa Binh (Vietnam). We do encourage anyone who is thinking of travelling to Vietnam to pay a visit to this reserve and share a night or two with these wonderful people. We are confident that, like us, you will not regret it and it will become one of the best experiences of the trip and, WITH NO DOUBT, THE MOST AUTHENTIC ONE.

The Muong is the third largest of Vietnam’s minority groups, with an estimated population of approximately 1.2 million. 59.5% of them live below the poverty line. Another good reason to make this visit is that most of the money you spent remains among the people of the villages.

The reserve is located about 150 km. southwest of Hanoi.

Currently, the easiest way to visit the reserve is with Handspan agency. They offer a couple of trips from Hanoi. The following posts will explain this issue in more detail.
